10 Hangover Remedies You Need To Try
Waking Up In Vietnam, Cotton Mouth. Wine Flu, Hangaxiety. Whatever you call it, you know it and you know it well. The hangover. Not the movie with Zach Galifianakis, but that morning hell after a night of drinking.
A morning full of confusion and laziness. Sleeping in far too late and accomplishing way too little. Trying to remember that stupid thing you said the night before. The headaches. Nausea. Vomiting, and vomiting's evil cousin, diarrhea.
You hate it as much as the next guy, and that's why you're here, and you came to the right place. This is a list of 10 hacks that will help climb out of your hangover hole so you can get back to living your life free of diarrheas and hangovers. (Don’t forget #10 😉)
1. Eat
Drinking on an empty stomach is a morning disaster waiting to happen. If you get hungover because you didn't eat anything when you drank last night, then that's your own damn fault. You deserve a hangover.
2. Do NOT take Tylenol
No matter how bad your headache is, do not touch the Tylenol. We repeat, DO NOT TOUCH IT. It's alright to take different medicines, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, but even those should be secondary to the more natural options further down on this list. The reason to avoid the Tylenol? Because it can kill you.
Yeah, we aren't kidding. A chemical called acetaminophen is the active ingredient in Tylenol, and when you take Tylenol, your liver turns acetaminophen into a substance that can be harmful to your liver in large amounts. When you drink alcohol with Tylenol, your body produces an excess amount of this harmful substance and it can cause severe liver damage and even death.
Don't believe us? Check this out: here! So, even if it means you have to live with a headache for a day, don't touch the Tylenol. (We've just saved you from an unpleasant liver-shutting-down-body-eating-itself-alive type of death. You're welcome.)
3. Hit the gym
You might vomit all over the floor the moment you hit the bench or as soon as your shoe touches the treadmill, but that's okay. Exercise can actually help you feel better after a heavy night of booze.
While exercise in it of itself won't do anything to help your body process the alcohol from your system (you can't sweat the alcohol out fo your system because a single drink is metabolized by your body in under an hour) Exercise can, however, release endorphins that will simply improve your mood.
You may also burn some calories (and some of the guilt) from your choice to drink so much the night before.
4. Drink plenty of H2O
Water is probably the most common and important hangover remedy. You should start drinking water as soon as you get home from the party, or even at the party! Try alternating a glass of water with every drink you have and you may be able to skip the hangover altogether.
Hangovers happen largely due to dehydration, so water should be the first thing you do to counter the hellish morning that awaits. If you forget to drink water at the party, then aim to drink half your body weight in ounces of water the next day.
5. Drink a sports drink, not an energy drink!
Grab a Gatorade or Powerade before you start drinking at night. (But avoid the energy drinks at all costs! Energy drinks are packed full of sugar and preservatives that will only make you feel worse.)
The next morning when you wake up, crack open your sports drink and drink it throughout the morning. It may not be as natural as good ole' water, but it will at least help replenish your system of the electrolytes and sodium your body lost drinking the night before.
6. Drink fruit juice
When it comes down to it, drinking anything will help you feel better. Well - anything except more alcohol, which will not help you. Drinking fruit juice is a great option because it is full of vitamins that will support your overall well-being!
It will also rehydrate your system just like water or sports drinks, and the natural sugars from the fruit will help burn off excess alcohol in your system.
7. Give yourself a caffeine kick
Drinking a cup of coffee can do more than kickstart your morning, it can help kick your hangover too. Caffeine lessens the swelling of the blood vessels in your brain, and can help get rid of that horrible headache. The key to an effective coffee-hangover-kick is not the strength or quality of your coffee, but the quantity.
There's a secret number of cups of coffee you should drink to effectively kick a few hangover symptoms. The secret number? Two cups. No more, and no less. It's the perfect amount to shrink those blood vessels down past the headache stage.
8. Eat a banana, an avocado, and a kiwi
The reason? Potassium. Avocados, bananas, and kiwis are fantastic sources of potassium, which is a mineral you lose a lot of when you drink. Although these potassium rich fruits (did you know that avocados are fruits?) won't cure your hangover, they'll definitely aid in a smooth recovery.
9. Try a hangover pill
No, not the hangover pill you're thinking of. Those pills aren't legit. With their 2 star reviews and low success rate, we highly discourage the use of "hangover pills".
What we do encourage, on the other hand, are the vitamins and amino acids that come in the form of pills. You can pick them up on any health supplement website or store, and they are great supplements to help make your hangover painless.
10. Use a hangover cure
If you've tried a few of these home remedies, you've probably realized that most of them gave you a boost of "feel good" energy, but none of them got rid of your hangover 100%.
This is the same issue we ran into. We couldn't find a solution that actually worked how and when we needed it to. Every home remedy we tried either made us more sick, didn't do anything, or maybe helped to slightly soothe a couple of the symptoms.
This is why we spent years researching hangover remedies, the chemical processes that go into a hangover, and ultimately - years researching our very own drink that lets us party hard and wake up feeling awesome. We call it The Plug, and our customers love what it does for them. Check out what they have to say here.
Give a few of these tricks a try yourself, and for the next month only - try The Plug for 20% off with the code "THEPLUGHACK".
